I’m a Michigan native who grew up in West Virginia, and I’ve spent the past 25 years living in Kentucky. I come from an outdoors-loving family and have a passion for a wide variety of activities.
This site is designed to share my love of outdoor photography. I’ve been involved in photography since high school, starting with 35mm film SLRs, dark room developing, and all that it entailed. I shot some weddings, discovered quickly that it wasn’t for me, and sort of got away from photography for a while. With the advent of digital equipment, I rediscovered my interest in outdoor photography.
I primarily shoot wildlife (with an emphasis on birds) and nature/landscapes. One of my favorite techniques is to show birds and animals in their environment as opposed to always getting the close up shot. Minimalism is of huge interest to me as well and I like to use it in my nature photos whenever possible. I enjoy challenging myself, learning my camera gear, and practicing various settings until they become second-nature. I shoot with Canon gear though I'm definitely not a brand snob (6D for landscapes and still life and a 7D MKII for birds and wildlife). Although having good equipment is helpful, knowing that equipment is crucial to being a good photographer, whether that equipment is a point-and-shoot or a high-end DSLR. Even more importantly, shooting what you enjoy, what interests you, your passion, injects that into your photos so that others can experience it, too.
I strive to have fun with photography and learn as much as I can from other photographers. I hope you’ll enjoy what I share here. I'd love to hear from you if you'd like to leave a comment on my blog or in the guestbook! You can also find me on Instagram and Facebook.
