American Bison (often mistakenly referred to as buffalo) in Land Between the Lakes (Tennessee). Bison stand 5' to 6.5' at the shoulder and can weigh over a ton. Their average lifespan is 12 to 20 years.

Many years ago I would have never dreamed to see bison that far east, and yet that's where they used to be as well as in the west! They were just forced west, and killed out. Now, how beautiful to see them again where they belong! Beautiful photo!

Beautiful photo....there is a small herd of Bison in my part of Texas. I was lucky enough to photograph them from a distance.

I know I'd heard that they were different, but didn't realize that we actually have no Buffalo in the states...Buffalo are Water Buffalo or Cape Buffalo...which we saw when we were in Africa. But the Bison in Yellowstone that I thought were Buffalo...nope!!! Interesting!!!
