One afternoon I noticed this Eastern Rat Snake sunning itself on the top rail of the front porch. When I walked out to take photos, it made its way along the rail and then turned downward toward the bottom rail. After reaching the bottom rail, it made a U-turn and went through the hole in one of the porch posts (third photo) and down to the porch itself. It then crawled across one of the porch mats and hung out under the table for a bit. With some encouragement from a broom, it finally found its way off the porch and over to the fence line next to the pasture.
